Delivery Frequently Asked Questions

How is my building materials brought in?

All of the steel members for your building or home are brought in on a one truck or a flat rack (usually a 40’ long one, shorter depending on the building) and the rest are brought by pallets.  All materials are coordinated for delivery to the mainland dock to ship on the same cargo ship, at the same time.  All materials Hawaii bound are shifted by Young Brothers at the Honolulu Dock for further transfer to the nearest on-island dock of the jobsite.

How do I know all of my parts are there?

On or about the day of delivery, a Ohana Steel Buildings representative will arrive on site to personally inventory your materials.  Any missing or damaged items are noted and pictures will be taken.  At the conclusion of the inventory, you will sign confirming the inventory.  If anything is missing or damaged, that will be altered on your signed confirmation.  Those missing or damaged parts will be ordered immediately.

What if I had missing or damaged parts on my delivery day?

Replacement parts are ordered immediately at Ohana Steel Buildings expense.  Insurance claims to the shipper or supplier are settled without the customer’s involvement.

A maximum of $1,000 may be withheld from funds due, in the event of shipping damage or inventory discrepancies.  The final $1,000 is immediately due when any discrepancies are rectified.

WE HAVE FOUND THE TIMELINES ARE FASTER THAN THIS, BUT WE RECOMMEND 3 MONTHS START TO DELIVERY.

Quotes are delivered usually within 2 business days, provided the approximate dimensions, purpose and jobsite location is provided.

Engineering plans are delivered stamped in all fifty US states, usually in 2 to 4 weeks.  This depends on the workload, and the time of year (ask Ohana Steel Buildings on the approximate engineering time for the current date).

Dry building materials are delivered to your jobsite on the mainland around 2 weeks later.  Materials are delivered to your jobsites in Hawaii around 4 to 6 weeks later.

What if my jobsite is remote and cannot support a 40’ flat rack?

When your building is ordered, the final steel framing will be manufactured.  Prior to placing the steel framing pieces on the flat rack for shipping, Ohana Steel Buildings will inquire or visit your jobsite to overcome such limitation.  Longer pieces can be separately packed.

Who schedules delivery of my building?

The drayage company may contact you directly for delivery scheduling.  ** Please notify Ohana Steel Buildings if you schedule delivery.  This will allow us to personally confirm your inventory, any damage and answer any questions you may have.

In the event we are contacted, we will talk with you first before scheduling delivery date and time.

What can I expect the day my building materials arrive?

On or about the delivery day, an Ohana Steel Buildings representative will bring a bill of materials with which to perform the inventory.

The drayage trucks and flat rack carriage will need to be delivered an unloaded as soon as possible.  There is usually a two day grace period, but storage fees and other fees will be charged due to any delays.  Delays in unloading and keeping of the Young Brother’s chassis will result in as much as $150 penalty PER DAY.  These charges are your responsibility should delays ensue.

To avoid such charges:

1)  Schedule drayage delivery as soon as conveniently possible once the building materials arrive to your home dock.

2)  Please notify Ohana Steel Buildings of your delivery date.

3)  Please be present during the entire timeframe of delivery and unloading.  Once the inventory is complete, any damage, missing parts and inventory, your signature is required.

4)  Make sure you have room enough on your jobsite or arrange a transfer site, for the drayage trucks (40’ or 20’ depending on your building pieces) to deliver.  Additionally, the drayage trucks requires a forklift to unload all materials.  There must be sufficient flat room on your jobsite to not only part the chassis, but also to maneuver the forklift to the intended storage on the jobsite.

5)  IF YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT ROOM FOR STORAGE AND UNLOADING AREA OR AN ACCESS ROAD CANNOT BE MANUEVERED:

            1.  Notify Ohana Steel Buildings BEFORE the building is manufactured.  The steel members can sometimes be packed differently, allowing more maneuverability for delivery trucks.

            2.  Notify the drayage company of the need for an additional truck and/or alternate delivery site for transfer to the jobsite.

6)  Plan on having one area of dry storage (if possible) for items such as insulation, foam roofing inserts and boxes of fasteners.  IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE, please have a tarp or plastic covering for these items.

7)  Depending on your building size, expect transfer and/or unloading to take several hours.  If your jobsite is unimproved, make sure you have ample shade, chairs, water and/or other weather protective items while you are observing unloading.

What if I (or my contractor) made a mistake and need to order a replacement product?

Notify us as soon as possible.  Because larger materials take longer to ship, please contact us for the replacement material needed.  Provide as much information as possible, included type, length and nature of replacement part needed.  If possible, email us pictures of the part needing replacement.
